(Baonghean.vn) - A portable, inexpensive swimming pool that can teach swimming to up to 10 people is the product of teachers at the Continuing Education Department of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, who have just "invented" it.

The swimming pool measures 4m x 6m x 1m and features a simple design. The outer frame is made of iron, making it easy to dismantle and move, while the inner lining, running along the frame, is a thick tarpaulin capable of retaining water and withstanding the necessary pressure.

The swimming pool comes with a pump to fill it with water. The amount of water needed to fill the pool each time is 16.8 m³ (6 x 3.5 x 0.8) (water pump height 0.8 m). Based on cost calculations, building this swimming pool would only cost approximately 10 million VND.

The swimming pool installation process is simple.

According to teacher Ngo Minh Thanh, a specialist at the Department of Continuing Education, this idea originated after Nghe An province experienced a high number of drowning incidents among its students. Meanwhile, in other localities, teaching swimming is often difficult due to the high cost of investing in swimming pools, or if swimming lessons are offered, they are usually conducted in canals and ditches, which are very unsafe.

With the aim of teaching swimming to students in community learning centers, the department proposed a plan titled "Drowning Prevention Education in Community Centers" and came up with the idea to design a multi-functional, convenient, and effective swimming pool.

With this swimming pool, teachers can teach 10 students at a time. The pool is designed to be shallow, allowing parents to stand outside, observe, and learn to swim with their children. Before being put into use, the pool was also tested at Hong Lam Vocational School (Vinh City) for teachers to try out, and it yielded positive results. Recently, those involved also donated this swimming pool to Anh Son Town Primary School to continue the pilot program this year.

Teacher Ngo Minh Thanh also expects that, if done properly and successfully, students will be able to swim the most basic stroke, the breaststroke, in just 5 days, with each session lasting only 60 minutes.
