Unique national relic of Ba Om pond
A pond of more than 300 hectares dug by locals centuries ago to store water for daily use and agricultural production is a unique scenic spot of Tra Vinh.

Ba Om Pond, located in Hamlet 3, Ward 8, Tra Vinh City (Tra Vinh Province), has a rectangular shape, 500m long and 300m wide, and was recognized as a national-level relic in the category of scenic spots in 1994. Local people often call this "square pond" because at first glance, it looks like the banks are of equal length.

The pond surface alone is about 100 hectares wide, with a depth of about 2 meters during the rainy season, and a water reserve of about 2 million cubic meters.

Ao Ba Om is located about 7km from Tra Vinh city center, along National Highway 53 to the Southwest.

Ba Om pond scenic complex consists of 3 parts: water surface area, pond bank and star apple forest, surrounded by many rows of ancient oil trees.

The pond is usually calm because there is no current and little wind because of the surrounding rows of old trees that provide protection from the wind. Depending on the season, the pond water surface will be clear blue or slightly mossy yellow.

According to documents recorded by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tra Vinh province, Ba Om pond was dug by people many centuries ago to store water for daily use and agricultural production.

The surrounding sparse primary forest is preserved intact.

Over time, the impact and erosion of wind and rain have exposed the roots of many ancient trees here with strange and unique shapes.

There are currently about 500 star trees and ancient oil trees hundreds of years old.

Every morning, visitors go for a walk, exercise, or sit and talk, enjoying the fresh air under the shade of the trees.

The ancient star apple and oil trees around the pond are numbered for easy management.

Ao Ba Om is a unique natural beauty spot in Tra Vinh in particular, and the Southwest region in general, becoming a destination attracting thousands of tourists from all over the country to visit every year.

With its cool, open green space, Ba Om pond is also chosen by many people as a place for outdoor study, research, lake habitat experience, camping...
