The Hemmelig Rom Library is located deep in the forest. |
Hemmelig Rom means "secret room" in Norwegian. The library was built as a holiday retreat in suburban New York. Completed in 2015, this single-room house boasts over 1,000 books, making it an ideal place to immerse yourself in a quiet, cozy reading space.
Despite its remote location deep within the forest, Hemmelig Rom is no longer a secret, having attracted media attention. Being alone in the woods and living surrounded by books is an experience not easily come by.

Photographer Jason Koxvold commissioned the architectural firm Studio Padron to create Hemmelig Rom. The library is filled with books on all genres, from design to photography, from military to economics. Beside the wooden bookshelves are comfortable chairs for relaxing while reading.

Even more remarkably, the library also has beds and a wood-burning stove for warmth on cold days. The bright colors from the yellow lighting of the interior contrast with the not-so-eye-catching exterior, making the oak library mysterious and a source of inspiration for book lovers around the world.
