Man gets 20 years in prison for trading four knives for a lump of drugs.
(Baonghean.vn) - Kha Bun Than agreed to pay for knives in exchange for drugs, after being offered drugs by a Laotian man. Being an addict, Than subsequently became deeply involved in the trafficking of "white death" (heroin).
On August 11th, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a first-instance criminal trial to hear the case against Kha Bun Than (born in 1966) and Kha Van Thi (born in 1976), both residing in Noong O village, Huu Lap commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of "illegally trading narcotics".
Earlier, at around 9:00 AM on April 1, 2020, a Laotian man came to Than's house to buy four knives for 1 million dong. However, because he didn't have enough money, the Laotian man wanted to exchange a block of heroin for the four knives. Than agreed.
Next, this person "asked" Than to sell 4 packages of drugs for 12.8 million VND. Than agreed, so he took the drugs and divided them into smaller portions to make it easier to sell to addicts.

On the evening of April 2nd, a man named Chien from Huu Kiem commune called Than to order 8 packets of methamphetamine for 28 million dong. Than agreed and went to Kha Van Thi's house to invite him along. At 9 PM that same day, Than and Thi went into the forest to meet Chien. However, because Than only had 4 packets of drugs at that time, the customer did not agree to take them, saying he would wait "until he had enough." Afterwards, Than told Thi to find 4 more packets of drugs.
The following morning, Thi went into the forest to buy four packets of drugs from a Hmong man for 12 million dong, agreeing to pay when he had the money. Late in the afternoon of April 3rd, at an abandoned house deep in the forest, Than and Thi delivered eight packets of drugs weighing 124.8 grams to the customer when a task force from Ky Son district police raided the place and arrested them. Than and Thi were apprehended, while the other suspects quickly fled.
In court, the two defendants admitted their crimes. Than confessed that due to his opium addiction, he agreed to exchange a knife for drugs. Later, driven by greed, he participated in drug trafficking. After considering all aspects of the case, the court sentenced Kha Bun Than to 20 years in prison and Kha Van Thi to 18 years in prison for the crime of illegally trafficking narcotics.
