Two friends sentenced to 40 years in prison for drug trafficking.
As friends, Quynh and Trinh conspired to buy drugs to sell. Although the pair had carefully planned to "dispose of the drugs if anything went wrong," they couldn't escape prison sentences.
On November 28, the Nghe An Provincial People's Court held a first-instance trial to hear the case against two defendants, Nguyen Van Quynh (born in 1995), residing in Nghi Kim commune, Vinh City, and Tran Van Trinh (born in 1989), residing in Minh Chau commune, Dien Chau district, for the crime of "illegally trading narcotics".

Quynh and Trinh were friends. In early December 2023, Quynh contacted Trinh asking if he could get drugs anywhere. Trinh replied that he would contact someone and let her know later.
Later, Trinh took a bus to the mountainous area to meet a man named Long (whose background is unknown) to inquire about buying drugs. This man said he had the "goods" but required a deposit.
Trinh informed you of this request. Therefore, on December 13th, Quynh transferred 7.2 million VND to Trinh for you to use as a deposit to buy drugs.
On the afternoon of December 15th, Quynh and Trinh rode a motorbike to Que Phong district to meet Long and hand over 30 million VND for the purchase of drugs. After receiving the money, the seller did not immediately hand over the drugs but arranged for them to go down to Quy Chau district to receive the "goods".
At the meeting point, Long pointed to a nearby lamppost, indicating where the drugs were hidden for Quynh to retrieve. After receiving the drugs, Quynh and Trinh returned to Vinh. Along the way, the couple discussed that if anything went wrong, Quynh would throw the drugs out of her possession.
At approximately 2:00 AM on December 16th, as the two were traveling through Chau Hanh commune, Quy Chau district, they were stopped by police for an administrative check. At this point, Quynh quickly threw the bag of drugs onto the roadside.
However, the actions of the two individuals were discovered by the authorities. Both were arrested along with over 138 grams of drugs as evidence.
At the trial, the two defendants admitted their crimes. Defendant Quynh testified that she provided the capital for the drug trafficking operation, while Trinh directly sourced the drugs.
Both defendants admitted to trafficking drugs for profit, even though they knew it was against the law. Of the two defendants, Quynh had previously been tried twice for "theft" and "illegal possession of narcotics."
At this trial, both defendants expressed remorse and asked the court to consider mitigating circumstances so that they could have the opportunity to return and reunite with their families sooner.
Considering that the two defendants committed the crime equally in this case, the court sentenced Nguyen Van Quynh and Tran Van Trinh each to 20 years in prison for the crime of "Illegal trafficking of narcotics".
