The two former prison friends ended up back in prison together… for drug-related offenses.

On February 22, the Nghe An Provincial People's Court held a first-instance criminal trial to hear the case against defendants Dang Danh Sy (born in 1985), residing in Cua Nam Ward, Vinh City (Nghe An), and Chu Van Phuc (born in 1982), residing in Ha Tinh City (Ha Tinh), for the crime of illegally trading narcotics. In addition, Sy was also prosecuted for another crime.Illegal possession of narcotics.
According to the indictment, on May 24, 2022, Phuc called Sy to order one block of heroin, 50 ecstasy pills, and 10 grams of ketamine to bring back to Ha Tinh to sell for profit. Sy quoted a price of 220 million VND, and Phuc transferred 210 million VND in advance.

To obtain drugs to sell to customers, the next day Sy bought them from a man named Long "Dẹo" (whose identity and address are unknown) for 195 million VND. After taking out a small amount of drugs for personal use, Sy hid them near the power station instead of keeping them in his house.
On the evening of June 2, 2022, Sy drove his car to the Vinh City bypass area, hid the drugs at the base of a traffic signpost, and then drove away. Sy instructed Phuc over the phone on the location where he had hidden the drugs. After receiving the drugs, Phuc drove his car to Ben Thuy 2 Bridge where he was discovered and arrested by law enforcement.
Based on Phuc's testimony, the police arrested Sy. Authorities determined that Dang Danh Sy is criminally liable for illegally possessing nearly 5 grams of narcotics and trafficking over 384 grams of various types of narcotics. Chu Van Phuc is criminally liable for trafficking over 450 grams of narcotics.
At the trial, the two defendants confessed honestly and showed remorse. Both admitted to being drug addicts. Regarding the drug trafficking, both defendants admitted to doing it for profit.
Considering that both defendants in this case have a bad criminal record with multiple previous prison sentences, the court sentenced Chu Van Phuc to 20 years in prison for illegally trading narcotics. Defendant Dang Danh Sy received a sentence of 21 years and 6 months in prison, including 20 years for trading and 1 year and 6 months for illegally possessing narcotics.
