The People's Court of Do Luong District recently tried the case of Nguyen Van Toai (aka Toai "Cuc"), (born in 1982, residing in Block 10, Do Luong town, Do Luong district) on charges of "Robbery" and "Illegal detention".
Two of Toai's accomplices, Nguyen Tuan Phong (born in 1982, residing in Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi) and Nguyen Canh Linh (born in 1996, residing in Block 5, Do Luong town, Do Luong district), were also tried for the crime of "Illegal detention".
According to records, Toai "Cuc" had two prior convictions and three prior offenses for robbery, disturbing public order, resisting arrest, etc. After serving his prison sentence, instead of focusing on honest work, Toai "Cuc" recruited subordinates and formed a gang to extort money from passenger bus routes in the districts of Do Luong, Thanh Chuong, Tan Ky, Anh Son, etc., and also engaged in debt collection and extortion.

Around September 2015, Mr. Nguyen The Ngo (born in 1978, residing in Thanh Chuong district) hired Toai's group to collect a debt of 450 million VND for his family. Despite Toai and his gang's repeated threats, the debtor was unable to pay, so Toai's group demanded that Mr. Ngo pay them a fee of 30 million VND.
On November 3, 2015, Toai's group arranged to meet Ngo at a coffee shop in Thanh Chuong district and demanded payment for their services. Ngo refused, stating that Toai's group had failed to collect his debts.
After a brief argument, Toai "Cuc"'s group used force to abduct Ngo, taking him to Do Luong town where they detained him, searched his personal belongings, and stole 10 million dong. At 5 PM that same day, Toai "Cuc"'s group released Ngo.
On December 23, 2015, the Criminal Investigation Department for Social Order Crimes (Provincial Police) successfully cracked case 115T, prosecuting and temporarily detaining Nguyen Van Toai and his accomplices.
In light of the criminal acts committed by Toai "the chief" and his accomplices, the court sentenced Nguyen Van Toai to 30 months in prison; Nguyen Tuan Phong to 6 months in prison; and Nguyen Canh Linh to 6 months in prison with a 12-month probationary period.
