(Baonghean.vn) - After nightfall, Phong would ride his motorbike with his girlfriend on the back, pretending to go out for fun, but in reality, they were cruising around looking for "prey." For two consecutive nights, the couple stole two motorbikes by using a crowbar to break the locks.

On the afternoon of February 27th, the Tan Ky District People's Court tried the criminal case against Pham Van Phong, born in 1994, residing in Thuan Dau hamlet, Khanh Hoa commune, Yen Khanh district (Ninh Binh province), and Truong Thi Nham, born in 1992, residing in Ke Nang hamlet, Nghia Phuc commune, Tan Ky district, for the crime of theft.

According to the indictment: between November 24th and 25th, 2018, Phong and Nham (who were in a relationship) committed two motorcycle thefts. Specifically, at around 7:30 PM on November 24th, 2018, after dinner, Phong took Nham out for a ride on his Airblade motorcycle, carrying a lock-picking tool.

While passing by Ms. Oanh's house in Phuc Thanh hamlet, Phong noticed a Wave Alpha motorbike with license plate 37 N1-233.22 unattended and decided to steal it.

While Nham waited, Phong used a crowbar to break the lock and steal Oanh's motorbike, removed the license plate and hid it in the trunk. Phong then rode Oanh's motorbike, and Nham rode his Airblade straight down to Do Luong.

Phong left the stolen motorbike at Mr. Quy's house in Hamlet 8, Hong Son Commune, Do Luong District. Phong lied, saying his girlfriend's motorbike had been in an accident and was unusable. Afterwards, the two went to Nham's house to sleep.

On the morning of November 25, 2018, using the same method, Phong broke the lock and stole a Yamaha Sirius motorbike with license plate 37N1-005.41 belonging to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, residing in Hamlet 11, Tan Huong Commune (Tan Ky). Afterward, Phong continued riding the stolen motorbike, while Nham rode an Airblade motorbike to Do Luong.

Upon arriving, Phong left the stolen car by the roadside, and then both of them went to Mr. Quy's house to ask for the car they had stolen the previous night back. However, because they could not produce the vehicle documents as requested by Mr. Quy, they were unable to retrieve the car and left.

Due to a lack of money, they sold the Airblade motorbike to an unknown man in Do Luong for 4 million dong. As for Ms. Huong's motorbike, Phong took it to Hai Phong city to use as transportation.

Asset valuation report No. 31 dated December 4, 2018, issued by the Tan Ky District Asset Valuation Council, concluded that the two motorcycles stolen by the couple had a total value of 29.8 million VND. Currently, the two motorcycles have been recovered and returned to their owners.

At the end of the trial, the panel of judges sentenced Phong to 30 months in prison and Nham to 6 months in prison. It is known that Phong had previously been convicted three times for theft, with a total prison sentence of 72 months, and his criminal record had not yet been expunged.
