Subject of fraud selling fake animation models to appropriate property caught
Bui Tran Viet Anh is a fraudster who appropriated property from many victims by posting cartoon character models for sale and then using "bricks" to deliver the goods to customers.
In early September 2025, Tay Hieu Ward Police, Nghe An Province received complaints from the public about a Facebook account named "Viet Anh" showing signs ofcyber fraudTay Hieu Ward Police reported to the leaders of the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of Nghe An Provincial Police to direct officers of Area Team No. 2 to coordinate with Ward Police to deploy professional measures to conduct verification on cyberspace.
The results in a short time quickly identified Bui Tran Viet Anh (born 2007), residing in Lien Hoa commune, Phu Tho province, as the subject committing fraud on the internet. The subject used a Facebook account named "Viet Anh" to post and sell cartoon character models following market trends such as: Gundam, Dragon ball, One piece...
To gain the trust of the victims, with the first orders, Viet Anh offered models and products with low values compared to the market. Once trust was gained, Viet Anh introduced and offered limited edition character simulation figures with high values, with the form of transferring money before receiving the goods and not being able to check the goods. More sophisticatedly, the subject offered many incentives such as, ordering in large quantities would get a percentage discount and free shipping. However, after the victims received the above goods, they discovered that inside were "bricks".
On September 14, 2025, the leaders of the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of Nghe An Provincial Police directed the Working Group including Tay Hieu Ward Police and Area Team No. 2 to arrest and detain people in emergency cases and search the residence of Bui Tran Viet Anh (born 2007), residing in Lien Hoa Commune, Phu Tho Province for the act of fraud and appropriation of property. The seized exhibits included 02 mobile phones, 05 boxes of goods and many bricks (prepared to commit fraud).
Initial investigation determined that, by the above method, Bui Tran Viet Anh had defrauded 05 victims in many localities across the country, with a total amount of 35 million VND. Currently, the Office of the Provincial Police Investigation Agency and Tay Hieu Ward Police are continuing to investigate and expand the case.
