What did the man who murdered his wife confess to the police?

On the afternoon of October 13th, the Criminal Investigation Agency of Vinh Phuc Provincial Police announced the arrest of Nguyen Van Thieu (born in 1997), residing in Cong Sau Hamlet, Huong Dao Commune, Tam Duong District, for the crime of..."Killing".

Earlier, at approximately 11:00 PM on October 12th, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Vinh Phuc Provincial Police received a report from the Tam Duong District Police regarding a murder that occurred at around 7:30 PM on October 12th on Provincial Road 309 in Bo Yen Hamlet, Huong Dao Commune (Tam Duong District). The victim was Ms. Ha Thi Duyen (born in 1997), residing in Hoang Hoa Commune, Tam Duong District. After committing the crime, the suspect fled the scene.

Considering this to be a particularly serious "murder" case, the Vinh Phuc Provincial Police Directorate assigned the Criminal Police Department to lead the coordination with the Tam Duong District Police, the Provincial Police's Forensic Technical Department, and other relevant units to conduct a scene investigation, autopsy, and organize an investigation to clarify the case; simultaneously, they issued a notice to search for the suspect.

The crime occurred after dark on a deserted stretch of road, and there was no concrete evidence to determine the exact crime scene, no direct witnesses, or security camera footage. Under the close and decisive direction of the Provincial Police Directorate, the Criminal Police Department mobilized 100% of its leaders and officers to cooperate with the Tam Duong District Police in applying investigative and professional methods to identify the perpetrator.

At approximately 11:00 AM on October 13th (12 hours after receiving the report), the investigating team clarified the case and, in coordination with the Soc Son District Police, Hanoi City, apprehended Nguyen Van Thieu while he was on the run in Soc Son town.

During the initial investigation, Nguyen Van Thieu confessed that he and Ha Thi Duyen had been married since 2017 and had no children together. During their marriage, conflicts arose between the couple. About a month ago, Duyen wanted a divorce and returned to live with her mother in Hoang Hoa commune.

Afterward, Thieu repeatedly asked his wife to return home, but Duyen refused. On the evening of October 12th, Thieu placed a long, sharp knife in the middle of his motorbike and drove to a section of road where his wife usually passed by, waiting for her. At that time, Duyen was riding her Honda Lead motorbike from Hamlet 4, Huong Dao Commune, towards Provincial Road 309 to Hop Hoa town (Tam Duong) to go to work the night shift.

When Thieu rode his motorbike alongside Duyen's vehicle, he asked and suggested that his wife go home, but Duyen refused. Immediately, Thieu used his right hand to stab Duyen in the left shoulder with a knife before pulling it out. Immediately afterward, both stopped their vehicles. Seeing that Duyen was bleeding profusely, Thieu hugged and helped his wife sit on the back of his motorbike and drove her to the Tam Duong District Medical Center for emergency treatment, leaving Duyen's Honda Lead motorbike on the side of the road.

On the way to the hospital, about 500 meters from where Duyen was being taken, Thieu threw the sharp knife away by the roadside. Immediately after taking Duyen to the Tam Duong District Medical Center for emergency treatment, Thieu fled to Binh Xuyen District (Vinh Phuc Province) and Soc Son District, Hanoi.

The investigating agency seized the two motorcycles mentioned above and the knife Thieu used as the weapon in the crime. It is known that Thieu has a prior conviction for illegal drug trafficking in 2015.

On the afternoon of the same day (October 13), the Investigation Police Department of Vinh Phuc province issued a Decision to initiate a criminal case, indict the suspect, and issue an arrest warrant for temporary detention against Nguyen Van Thieu for the crime of "Murder" as stipulated in Article 123 of the Penal Code.
