According to RT on August 3rd, data from a survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports shows that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is leading Vice President Kamala Harris by 5 percentage points in the polls.
According to the survey, 49% of respondents said they would vote for Trump, while 44% would vote for Harris. Another 4% would vote for a different candidate, and 2% were undecided. The survey was conducted on July 24-25 and 28-31 with 2,163 American voters who declared their intention to vote in the presidential election.
The Rasmussen Report noted that in its previous poll from July 22-24, Trump had a 7-percentage-point lead over Harris – 50% to 43%.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that Republican vice presidential candidate JDVance argued that President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race and his replacement, Kamala Harris, had further complicated the situation for the Democratic Party.
The Washington Post also noted that, in public statements, Trump and his campaign team emphasized that replacing Biden with Kamala Harris would not change the course of the race, because the vice president is also responsible for White House policies that have alienated voters.
Vice President Harris has not yet been officially nominated as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate. Previously, the party's national committee stated that a vote on the matter could be held online before August 7th. The New York Times emphasized that, in this case, the Democratic National Convention, scheduled for August 19-22 in Chicago, would become a ceremonial event. Earlier, media reports indicated that Harris had received enough votes to become the Democratic nominee.
It's worth noting that in the first poll conducted by Ipsos and Reuters after President Biden dropped out of the race, Harris led Trump 44% to 42%. A subsequent poll by The Wall Street Journal showed Trump leading 49% to 47%.
