The chosen candidate is Donald McGahn, former Chairman of the Federal Election Commission. He has recently served as the chief legal counsel for Trump's campaign.
McGahn has a long history of working in the capital and within the Conservative political bloc.
McGahn spent many years advising the Republican National Convention Committee – the party's body that oversees campaigns related to the House of Representatives.
During his time at the Federal Election Commission, he advocated for easing restrictions on campaign spending and was widely praised for increasing transparency in the Commission's internal operations.
In addition to providing guidance on mental and ethical matters, the White House counsel's office advises the President on the legality of executive orders and laws passed by Congress. The office also vets nominees for government positions, including Supreme Court justices.
In a statement, Trump praised Don, saying he "has a very good legal mind and a deep understanding of the Constitution."
