"It's great that the shackles have been removed from me and I can now fight for America the way I want," CNN quoted Trump as saying on Twitter, raising the possibility of a "civil war" within the Republican party.
This battle will split Trump's loyal supporters from the rest of the party. The candidate also attacked House Speaker Paul Ryan for alienating him, accusing the party leader of trying to sabotage the campaign. This is unprecedented for a US presidential candidate so late in the year.
On Twitter, Trump called Ryan a "weak" and "ineffective" leader, days after the House Speaker said he would no longer defend the Republican candidate.
"Despite winning the second debate overwhelmingly (based on every poll), it's hard to do well when Paul Ryan and others aren't on your side!" Trump declared.
The Republican Party is in turmoil after a 2005 video leaked on October 7th, showing Trump making vulgar comments and boasting about groping and sexually harassing women. Many lawmakers in the party said they would not vote for Trump in next month's election, while others called for him to withdraw.
