The company statement said: “1,855 km of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has been laid along the Baltic Sea seabed within the territorial waters of Russia, Finland, Sweden and Germany. This is 75% of the total length of the two pipelines. Therefore, Nord Stream 2 AG has proceeded with the installation of the remaining quarter of the pipeline.”
Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller also told the press: "Nord Stream 2 has entered its final phase."
Project representatives also noted that the construction of two gas pipelines has been fully completed in the territorial waters of Germany and Finland, and installation is ongoing in Russian territorial waters. Onshore construction in Germany and Russia is in the upgrading phase.
The Nord Stream 2 project involves the construction of two pipelines with a combined capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, running from the Russian coast across the Baltic Sea to Germany.
The estimated construction cost is around 9.5 billion euros, and the pipeline is expected to be operational before the end of 2019.
Gazprom's European partners in this project include Uniper and Wintershall of Germany, OMV of Austria, Engie of France, and Shell of the UK and Netherlands. These partners are financing 50% of the project.
