"Nord Stream 2" will not affect German-Ukrainian relations.
The differing positions between Germany and Ukraine on the Nord Stream 2 project do not affect the strategic partnership between the two countries, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told reporters at a press conference with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

"We share a common goal on this issue, according to which Ukraine remains a gas transit country. Therefore, Germany proposes that negotiations should be conducted not only between Russia and Ukraine, but also with the participation of the EU. This will continue. I have always made it clear to the Russian President that, for me, 'Nord Stream 2' means that Ukraine remains a gas transit country. Although we have different positions on this issue, the strategic partnership between the two countries will be maintained, in fact, the two sides have many similar views," Merkel told Poroshenko.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko affirmed that Kyiv continues to demand an end to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 project and proposes that German companies participate in managing Ukraine's gas transportation system. According to him, Berlin and Kyiv have different approaches to resolving this issue.
