Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung holds the position of Chairman of the People's Committee of Hanoi City.
With a majority of delegates voting in favor, Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee, was elected to the position of Chairman of the Hanoi City People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term.

At the meeting, with a majority of delegates voting in favor, Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee, was elected to the position of Chairman of the Hanoi City People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term.
Previously, on the afternoon of November 10th, the Politburo decided that Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung would cease his participation in the Executive Committee and Standing Committee, and would relinquish his position as Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term. Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung was transferred and appointed to the Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Hanoi City Party Committee, holding the position of Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term.
Later that same day, the Hanoi People's Council dismissed Mr. Tran Sy Thanh from his position as Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term. Previously, at the 14th meeting of the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Mr. Tran Sy Thanh – Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee – was elected to the Central Inspection Committee and appointed as its Chairman.
Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung was born in 1974, hails from Thanh Hoa province, and holds a Master's degree in Economics.
The new Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee previously held positions such as Director of the Organization and Personnel Department, Director of the Local and Regional Economy Department, and Director of the Infrastructure and Urban Development Department under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
From January 2019 to February 2020, he served as Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment. From March 2020 to November 2024, he held the position of Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province. In November 2024, Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung was elected Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, and in October 2025, he was re-elected as Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee.
