Comrade Nguyen Thiep - Secretary of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee in 1930
Comrade Nguyen Thiep (1894-1932), along with his comrades in the Party committee, devoted all their efforts to building the Party in terms of ideology and organization, serving as the leading force in the mass movement.
Nguyen Thiep was born in 1894 into a poor scholarly family in Phu Viet village, Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province.
From a young age, Nguyen Thiep showed himself to be an intelligent, studious boy with great aspirations. After passing his primary school exams, Nguyen Thiep returned to his hometown to teach, thus having the opportunity to participate in patriotic activities.
In late 1928, Nguyen Thiep was appointed to head the Tan Viet Party's main organization in Thach Ha district and was added to the Provincial Executive Committee of the Tan Viet Party in Ha Tinh. After the Tan Viet Party split and disintegrated, Nguyen Thiep and other communist-leaning party members actively worked towards the establishment of the Indochinese Communist Federation.
In March 1930, at the founding conference of the Communist Party of Vietnam's Ha Tinh Provincial Committee, Comrade Nguyen Thiep was elected to the Provincial Party Committee, directly in charge of the movement in the southern districts, under the pseudonym Kim Don. Under the active and close guidance of Comrade Nguyen Thiep, by July 1930, the districts of Thach Ha, Cam Xuyen, and Ky Anh had established 30 communist branches with over 100 party members and formed provisional district-level administrations. As a result, the revolutionary movement in these areas developed increasingly vigorously.
In September 1930, the first Congress of Delegates of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee was convened in Phu Viet (Thach Ha). At this congress, Comrade Nguyen Thiep was elected Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.
Taking on a great responsibility, Comrade Nguyen Thiep, together with the Provincial Party Committee, devoted all his efforts to building the Party in terms of ideology and organization, making it the leading force in mass movements. He personally went down to the districts to direct Party building work and train and cultivate key grassroots cadres.
In early 1931, Comrade Nguyen Thiep was added to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Regional Party Committee, under the pseudonym Nguyen Cau, and went to Vinh for work. After working at the Regional Party Committee for a while, in March 1931, he was again assigned to lead the movement in Ha Tinh province.
While Nguyen Thiep was actively fighting alongside his comrades and fellow citizens of Ha Tinh against the enemy's policy of brutal repression and defending the Soviet government, in May 1931 he was transferred to the Regional Party Committee to consolidate the Executive Committee of the Regional Party Committee, after Nguyen Phong Sac went to work in the North; he was appointed to the Standing Committee of the Central Vietnam Regional Party Committee.
On June 21, 1931, while busily preparing for the Central Committee Conference of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, he was arrested by the enemy in Vinh. The secret police used every dangerous method to torture him, but they surrendered to his iron will.
Comrade Nguyen Thiep's unwavering courage served as a great source of encouragement and inspiration for the political prisoners in Vinh prison. In October 1931, the French colonialists sentenced him to 13 years of hard labor and exiled him to Buon Ma Thuot prison.
On February 16, 1932, Comrade Nguyen Thiep breathed his last, leaving behind immeasurable grief among his fellow political prisoners at Buon Ma Thuot prison.
Comrade Nguyen Thiep's enduring and passionate fighting life and his shining moral qualities are a source of pride for the Party Committee and people of Ha Tinh.
