Comrade Vi Văn Sơn holds the position of Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Nghe An Province.
When it was established, the Nghe An Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions had a Director and two Deputy Directors.
On the morning of March 3rd, the People's Committee of Nghe An province held a conference to announce the Resolution of the Provincial People's Council establishing specialized agencies under the Provincial People's Committee and decisions on personnel matters.
Resolution No. 07/NQ-HĐND, dated February 25, 2025, of the Nghe An Provincial People's Council, resolves to establish the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions on the basis of (reorganizing the Ethnic Affairs Committee and taking over the functions, tasks, and organizational structure of the Religious Affairs Committee under the Department of Internal Affairs).

In Decision No. 606/QD-UBND dated February 26, 2025, Mr. Le Hong Vinh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, appointed Mr. Vi Van Son, former Head of the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee, to the position of Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religion of Nghe An province. This decision is effective from the date of signing.
The former Deputy Heads of the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee, Luong Van Khanh and Vy My Son (before the establishment of the department), were appointed as Deputy Directors of the Nghe An Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religion.
Before the merger, the two agencies had five departments and equivalent units; of which, the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee had four departments and the Religious Affairs Committee was under the Department of Internal Affairs (equivalent to a department within the Department).
It is expected that after reorganization, merger, and consolidation, it will form four departments: the Department Office, the Department Inspectorate, the Policy Department, the Planning and Synthesis Department, and the Religious Affairs Committee.
The establishment of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religion (based on the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee receiving the functions, tasks, and organizational structure for advising on state management of religion from the Department of Internal Affairs) aims to ensure a streamlined, rational, effective, and efficient organizational structure, meeting the operational requirements of a multi-sectoral and multi-field state management advisory department, while simultaneously perfecting and clearly defining the functions, tasks, and powers; restructuring, streamlining, and improving the quality of the Department's officials and employees to meet the demands of the new situation.
