After receiving the information and conducting an investigation, on November 15th, the authorities arrested Nguyen Huy Hung, the perpetrator of the theft, while he was hiding in his hometown of Phu Tho.
At the police station, Hung confessed that due to a lack of stable employment and a need for money, he had conceived the idea of stealing. He had previously visited the store on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street many times, so he was familiar with the layout of the items displayed inside.
With his experience as an electrician, the suspect observed the layout of the electrical system and cameras to plan his actions.
At approximately 7 PM on September 4th, Hung lied, claiming he was going to repair a sign next to the store. At 10 PM that same day, after the store employees had left, the suspect broke inside and quickly disabled the power supply to the cameras.
Afterward, the suspect used a cutting tool he brought with him to cut the lock on the metal cabinet, stealing 15 mobile phones, 3 laptops, and numerous gold necklaces, bracelets, and rings with a total value of over 400 million VND… before fleeing back to his hometown.
On the morning of September 7th, Hung took a bus back to Hanoi to sell the stolen goods to several mobile phone shops in Hanoi. He sold the stolen gold to a gold and silver shop in Kim Chung commune, Dong Anh district (Hanoi), and other locations.
During further questioning, Nguyen Huy Hung confessed that, in addition to the aforementioned theft, on October 30th he stole 15 mobile phones at another location on Huynh Thuc Khang Street, Lang Ha Ward, Dong Da District (Hanoi). The case is currently under further investigation.
