Dong Nai: Authorities dismantle a World Cup 2026 football betting ring at a coffee shop.
Authorities in Long Binh ward, Dong Nai city, recently apprehended a group of individuals organizing illegal football betting, seizing numerous related items during the World Cup season.
At 9:20 AM on June 16, 2026, the Long Binh Ward Police, Dong Nai City, conducted an administrative inspection of the PT coffee shop in Block 33, Long Binh Ward. There, law enforcement officers discovered and apprehended a group of individuals engaging in illegal gambling in the form of football betting.

At the time of the inspection, the cafe was showing a live broadcast of the match between Iran and New Zealand in the 2026 World Cup. Through the on-site inspection, the Long Binh Ward Police determined that Nguyen Thai Truong Vinh Yen (born in 1980, residing in Tam Hiep Ward, Dong Nai City) and Tran Van Giang (born in 1988, from Thanh Hoa Province) were gambling on football matches with a total amount of 6 million VND.
Authorities apprehended the suspects in the act of committing the crime, seized related evidence, and brought them to the police station for questioning. Through further investigation, the police identified three other individuals involved: Pham Quang Dung (born in 1980, residing in Tam Hiep Ward, Dong Nai City), Nguyen Tien Duan (born in 1978, from Hung Yen Province), and Phan Truong (born in 1986, from Gia Lai Province).

Initial investigations revealed that, in addition to the match for which he was caught red-handed, Nguyen Thai Truong Vinh Yen also participated in betting with Giang, Truong, and several other individuals on two previous matches. The total amount of money used for gambling in these transactions was determined to be 14 million VND. Regarding Duan and Dung, authorities determined that both participated in betting on the Iran - New Zealand match with an amount of 1 million VND.
The Long Binh Ward Police are currently continuing to verify and consolidate the case files to handle the suspects according to the law. Given the ongoing major football tournaments, the Dong Nai City Police advise citizens to absolutely refrain from participating in any form of gambling, especially football betting.
