(Baonghean.vn) - 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia, with education being a top priority area of cooperation. With many new policies for international students, Australia continues to affirm its position as a "paradise" for Vietnamese people to study, work, and settle.

Australia - a top study destination.

According to the latest statistics, the number of Vietnamese students studying in Australia is approximately 24,000, placing Vietnam fifth among countries with the largest number of students studying in Australia.

In addition, the number of Vietnamese alumni who have studied in Australia is approximately 100,000. Regarding post-graduation salaries, Vietnamese students earn between 60,000 and 86,000 AUD (0.94 - 1.35 billion VND) per year, depending on their level of study (according to data from the QILT survey - a quality indicator of teaching and learning in universities, sponsored by the Australian Department of Education).

The above figures show that studying in Australia is one of the top potential choices for Vietnamese students, not only because of the opportunity to access the best living and learning environment in the world, but also because of the potential for breakthrough income with attractive job positions, building a foundation for a successful life and career in the future.

In terms of living environment, Australia is one of the most livable countries in the world; consistently ranking among the top countries in terms of happiness index, average life expectancy, and environmental quality.

In terms of educational quality, Australia is considered one of the most advanced and modern, with degrees comparable to those of the UK and the US. The country offers a rich education system with over 1,100 educational institutions and 22,000 programs. Australia also boasts many prestigious universities such as Sydney, RMIT, and Melbourne, with teaching methods that emphasize practical application and stimulate creativity.

Attractive new policies for international students in Australia.

In early July, the Australian Department of Immigration updated a series of policy changes for international students, which are considered the best possible conditions ever for Vietnamese students intending to enter Australian schools.

Specifically, Vietnam has recently been upgraded to Level 1 in the Australian Department of Immigration's Assessment Levels. This change increases the visa approval rate because the application procedures and documentation requirements for studying abroad are significantly relaxed. In addition, Vietnamese students may be exempt from providing proof of financial resources and English language proficiency if they pass the tests administered by certain Australian universities.

The policy on part-time work has also been relaxed, allowing international students to work 48 hours every two weeks instead of just 40 hours previously. Here, international students can find legal and suitable part-time jobs with a minimum wage of approximately AUD 21.38/hour (nearly VND 350,000) to help cover living expenses and gain work experience.

The Australian government has also decided to increase the work permit duration for international students after graduation. Accordingly, students with a bachelor's degree will be allowed to stay and work for 4 years instead of 2 years, while those with a master's degree will be allowed to stay for 3 to 5 years; and for those with a doctorate, the work visa will be allowed for 4 to 6 years.

Additionally, the list of priority occupations for immigration has been updated to include Engineering, Healthcare, Education, Information Technology, and Hospitality.
