During the war against the US, Truông Bồn was a key point on the strategic supply route to the southern front. Here, under the rain of bombs and bullets, the army and people of Nghe An, with the spirit of "our hearts may stop beating, but the road cannot be blocked"; "living clinging to the bridge and the road; dying bravely and resolutely," maintained the vital transportation artery for convoys and troops heading to the front lines. Here, 1,240 outstanding sons and daughters of the army, police, youth volunteers, and civilian laborers fell in the embrace of Mother Earth. In particular, on October 31, 1968, 13 youth volunteers from Squad 2 – the "Steel Squad" of Company 317, Team 65, Nghe An Youth Volunteer Brigade – bravely sacrificed their lives. |
