The number of universities under the direct management of the Ministry of Education and Training is expected to be reduced by 5.
According to the restructuring plan being developed by the Ministry of Education and Training, it is expected that 5 higher education institutions and 12 vocational education institutions will be reduced.
This information was presented in a report by the Ministry of Education and Training during a recent meeting with the Ministry of Interior on administrative reform.
A representative from the Ministry of Education and Training stated that they are continuing to review the functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure of the units under the Ministry to adjust tasks accordingly, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity.
Specifically, the Ministry of Education and Training is developing a plan to reorganize and merge a number of higher education and vocational education institutions. According to the plan, it is expected that 5 higher education institutions under the Ministry of Education and Training and 12 vocational education institutions will be eliminated.
This plan is currently being compiled and feedback is being gathered from relevant parties before being submitted to the competent authorities for consideration and decision. The Ministry of Education and Training has not yet provided further details.

According to Plan No. 06-KH/TW, the Politburo requires the restructuring and reorganization of public higher education institutions in the following direction: Transferring multi-disciplinary and multi-field higher education institutions to the Ministry of Education and Training or local authorities for management; merging and consolidating educational institutions in the same area, except for those in specialized fields. The Politburo aims to reduce the number of public higher education institutions by at least 20%, a task that must be completed before April 1, 2027.
