(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An's tourism development has not yet lived up to its potential and expectations. While there are many tourism products, they lack attractiveness and competitiveness. The quality of services does not meet the demands of tourists.

On the afternoon of July 19th, the Provincial People's Committee held a meeting to hear and give opinions on the report summarizing the first five years of implementing Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW dated January 16, 2017, of the Politburo on developing the tourism industry into a key economic sector.

Comrade Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - chaired the meeting. Attending the meeting were representatives from the Provincial People's Committee Office, relevant departments and agencies; and leaders from Nam Dan district, Vinh city, and Cua Lo town.

At the meeting, the leaders of the Department of Tourism presented the Draft Report summarizing the first five years of implementing Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW. According to the report, over the past five years, the awareness of tourism among all levels and sectors in the province has changed significantly, and coordination has become increasingly smoother. ActivitiestourismDevelopment continues in the right direction. Investment in tourism infrastructure and facilities has seen positive progress, with the emergence of some high-class projects. Tourism products are more diverse, and their quality has improved significantly.

The preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values in conjunction with tourism development has received attention. Cooperation and linkages in tourism development with other provinces, cities, and large tourism corporations and enterprises continue to expand… State management of tourism has been strengthened, ensuring a safe, civilized, and friendly tourism environment, creating confidence for tourists visiting Nghe An.

However, tourismNghe An still faces many challenges: Although tourism products have improved, they lack breakthroughs and branded products that strongly attract tourists from other provinces; there is a lack of entertainment, recreation, and nighttime shopping services to encourage tourists to extend their stay and increase their spending; and it has not yet attracted many professional investors, especially large-scale foreign investors.

SomeprojectKey tourism development projects have been either not implemented at all or implemented very slowly. Tourism and related human resources lack professionalism… Cooperation and linkages between Nghe An and neighboring countries Laos and Thailand to promote transnational tourism have not yielded the desired results. Tourism promotion and marketing activities lack depth and focus; the methods are still monotonous, and the effectiveness and reach are not high.

During the meeting, representatives from departments, agencies, and localities focused on further analyzing the current limitations and shortcomings of tourism in Nghe An. Concluding the meeting, Comrade Bui Dinh Long requested that the Nghe An Department of Tourism incorporate the opinions of all levels, sectors, and localities to finalize the report as soon as possible. This report should clearly state the implementation of the objectives set forth in Resolution 08-NQ/TW, Action Program No. 55-CTr/TU, and Plan 62/KH-UBND.

It must be clearly acknowledged that Nghe An's tourism development has not yet lived up to its potential and expectations. While there are many tourism products, they lack attractiveness and competitiveness. Service quality does not meet the demands of tourists. Tourism businesses are mostly small. Tourism infrastructure and accommodation facilities are inadequate. Destinations are too far apart. Connectivity between regions and tourist destinations is low. Destinations are simple and lack hygiene. The climate and weather are unfavorable. Coastal tourism lags behind other localities, with shortcomings in landscape, noise pollution, and aggressive touting.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province also suggested that the Nghe An tourism industry should consider this a chance to reassess its development. From there, the industry should make recommendations to the Party Committee and the government to allocate more resources for investment, so that tourism truly becomes a key economic sector by 2030.
