On August 11, two Colombian soldiers clung to the national flag beneath a helicopter flying over the reviewing stand, but the cable snapped, causing them to fall to their deaths.

As the helicopter flew over the flower festival, the two soldiers even waved to the crowd below. However, the cable snapped shortly afterward, causing the two servicemen to fall to the ground.
The Colombian Ministry of Defense said two soldiers died in the incident, with the Colombian flag still wrapped around their bodies. Local authorities closed the airport afterward while the Colombian military investigated the accident.
