Classified as hazardous, gasoline and diesel-powered cars could be banned from sale in Europe starting in 2030.

The German Senate has passed a resolution banning internal combustion engines and submitted a proposal to the European Commission to implement a continent-wide ban, according to Spiegel magazine.

Diesel and petrol motorcycles could be banned from sale in Europe from 2030.

The resolution calls on the European Commission to "review existing tax laws and consider ways to encourage zero-emission mobility," which would encourage customers to buy electric vehicles.

The German Senate's action also means it's proposing that the European Commission remove the tax advantage currently applied to diesel vehicles, according to Forbes. If this is implemented, the cost of these models could increase, meaning customers would no longer be enthusiastic about diesel cars and manufacturers would no longer want to invest in production.

Fuel-guzzling machines with superior power could gradually disappear from Europe if a ban is implemented.

The resolution's clear objective is to ban the sale of internal combustion engine cars (both gasoline and diesel) from 2030, meaning that vehicles sold before then will remain in operation. Importantly, until then, these fuel-guzzling machines will continue to roam freely on Germany's Autobahn.
