The incident took place on National Highway 7A near Ba village, Huu Kiem commune, Ky Son district (Nghe An). The snake hiding in a rock cavity on National Highway 7A is believed to be a highly venomous king cobra. A young man living in Ba village, Huu Kiem commune, passed by and discovered it, calling his friends to come and capture it.

They brought fishing nets and sticks to dig through the layer of rocks and soil where the snake was hiding. It took them quite a bit of effort and nearly half an hour for the snake to show itself. It quickly slithered down the mountainside by the road to the drainage ditch but was caught by a group of local men who threw nets and used sticks to catch it.

At this time, the group of young men discovered that the snake was shedding its skin. The old skin on its neck was still intact. That was the reason why it had to hide in the rock crevice.

"It's shedding its skin so it's slow and weak. If it were strong, it would be even harder to catch," commented one of the snake catchers.
