Having run out of money, Long planned to kill Mr. Ky to rob him, but failed. When questioned by the police, the suspect confessed that he had an illicit relationship with the victim's wife and therefore plotted to kill the husband so he could be free to pursue his affair.

The Criminal Investigation Agency of Long Ho District Police (Vinh Long Province) announced today that they are temporarily detaining suspect Duong Quang Long (50 years old, residing in Than Binh Hamlet, Tan Long Hoi Commune, Mang Thit District) for investigation into the crime of "murder".

The victim was Mr. Nguyen Van Ky (46 years old, residing in Long An commune, Long Ho district).

According to the investigation, Ms. Le Thi Le (Mr. Ky's wife) works as a clothing vendor at the market. Long sells sandals from a mobile stall, so the two families became close and frequently visited each other. Mr. Ky has two children who study in Can Tho City and work elsewhere. Every day, his wife goes to the market to sell goods, while Mr. Ky stays at home farming and raising cattle.

Long, despite being a trader, frequently borrowed money from Mr. Ky's family. Recently, Long borrowed 10 million dong to buy goods for the Lunar New Year. However, he spent it all, leading him to plot to rob Mr. Ky's family.

Long was very familiar with the daily routine of Mr. Ky's family, knowing that Ms. Le would set up her stall at the market in the early morning, and that no one would know when the crime was committed. Around 4:30 AM on December 29, 2016, Long concealed a piece of wood on his person and rode his motorbike from his house to Mr. Ky's house, a distance of about 15km. Upon arrival, Ms. Le had already set up her stall at the market.

Long pretended his motorbike was broken down and knocked on the door, asking Mr. Ky to help fix it. Without any suspicion, Mr. Ky took out a flashlight and started repairing the motorbike when Long grabbed a piece of wood and repeatedly struck him on the head, causing him to become disoriented. Afterward, Long took Mr. Ky inside the house. At this time, Nguyen Thi Cam Linh (21 years old – Mr. Ky's daughter), hearing the commotion, went outside to investigate and discovered her father injured, so she shouted for help.

Long also looked panicked, saying, "Your father was hit on the head by a falling tree and has been taken to the emergency room."

Mr. Ky was taken to Can Tho City General Hospital for treatment and is now out of critical condition. Suspecting foul play, Mr. Ky's family reported the incident to the police. Upon receiving the report, the police summoned Long for questioning. Initially, Long confessed that he had an illicit relationship with Ms. Le and therefore conceived the idea of ​​killing Mr. Ky so that he could be free to continue the relationship.

Through investigative measures, the police proved Long's statement was false. At this point, Long finally admitted the truth: he wanted to kill Mr. Ky to steal his property, and that he and the victim's wife had no romantic relationship. Long's plan failed because the victim's daughter came home that day and discovered the incident in time.
