Authorities smuggled 1.5 tons of fireworks from abroad to Nghe An province.
The Security Investigation Agency of the Nghe An Provincial Police is finalizing procedures to prosecute two suspects in a transnational firework trafficking case. Approximately 1.5 tons of various types of fireworks were seized.
The two defendants charged are Hoang Canh Uoc (born in 1981), residing in Duc Co district, Gia Lai province, and Cao Thanh Hoa (born in 1994), residing in Pleiku city, Gia Lai province.
Previously, through intelligence gathering, the Economic Security Department of the Nghe An Provincial Police discovered a ring transporting and trading illegal firecrackers from abroad into Vietnam for consumption. Determined to prevent this crime from occurring, the provincial police leadership directed units to establish a special task force to combat and dismantle the ring.
Through a rigorous investigation and close monitoring of the suspects' movements, at 6 PM on May 14, 2025, in the Ho Chi Minh Highway area (in Cao Son commune, Anh Son district), the Special Task Force, in coordination with the Cao Son Commune Police and Road Traffic Police Team No. 3, successfully apprehended the suspects: Hoang Canh Uoc (born in 1981), residing in Duc Co district, Gia Lai province, and Cao Thanh Hoa (born in 1994), residing in Pleiku city, Gia Lai province, while they were illegally transporting firecrackers.

Notably, during the arrest, the suspects fiercely resisted in an attempt to escape. However, with determination, the authorities successfully apprehended them and brought them to headquarters. At the scene, authorities seized: 198 boxes of 49-shot firecrackers, 768 boxes of 36-shot firecrackers, estimated at approximately 1.5 tons of firecrackers; and 2 vehicles used to transport the contraband.
At the investigative agency, the suspects admitted to their crimes. Currently, the Security Investigation Agency of the Nghe An Provincial Police is completing the procedures to handle the case in accordance with the law.
