The Downfall of the Young Widow

Le Thi Ngoc Luong (37 years old), residing in Kim Son town, Que Phong district, was born and raised in a family with 11 siblings. As the second youngest child, Luong was given the opportunity by her parents to complete her high school education.

Growing up, Luong got married early to settle down. The birth of their two children brought happiness to Luong and her husband. The widow has worked various jobs to make a living, such as selling bamboo shoots and searching for quartz crystals. Around 2021, while searching for quartz crystals in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district, Luong met a Hmong man (whose background and address are unknown). This encounter became the clue that led Luong down the path of crime and imprisonment.

According to the indictment, in early 2023, due to unfavorable business conditions and outstanding bank debts, Luong conceived the idea of ​​buying drugs to sell for profit. Luong remembered a Hmong man he had met before and called him to order two blocks of heroin for 20 million dong.

On the morning of February 14, 2023, Luong rode his motorbike alone to the meeting point to receive the "goods." The seller pointed to a package of drugs hidden in a bush and said he would "tip" him an extra 5 ecstasy pills. Luong took the drugs and hid them in the leg of his pants.

The woman's drug trafficking activities were discovered by the police, and she was arrested while on her way home. The evidence seized included nearly 78 grams of drugs. For this offense, Le Thi Ngoc Luong was prosecuted and brought to trial for "Illegal trafficking of narcotics."

Late regrets

Throughout the trial, the defendant repeatedly bowed her head, showing remorse for her actions. This was especially true on the day of the trial, when many of her relatives, including her children, were present in the courtroom. Regret and shame were the feelings of the female defendant regarding her wrongdoing.

Regarding the motive for the crime, the female defendant stated that due to business difficulties and the need for money to repay bank debts, she took a risk. She used the money she had saved from her business to traffic drugs.

In her final statement before the court adjourned to deliberate, the defendant earnestly pleaded with the panel of judges to consider the circumstances of her crime so that she could have the opportunity to return to her children soon. She stated that this was a costly lesson she had learned and promised not to repeat the offense. After a comprehensive review of the case, the panel of judges sentenced Le Thi Ngoc Luong to 15 years in prison for the crime of "Illegal trafficking of narcotics."

Having invested heavily in a business venture, Luong received only years of imprisonment in return. The defendant regrets having struggled to support his family for many years, only to pay a heavy price for his momentary greed.
