Duong Thuy Vi wins Gold Medal on a special day
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 11th, Wushu female martial artist Duong Thuy Vi brought home the first gold medal of the day for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation in the women's spear and sword events. Notably, this was also the 30th birthday of this beautiful female martial artist.
On the second day of the wushu competition, martial artist Duong Thuy Vi continued to deliver an outstanding performance in the sword event, scoring 9.623 points and ranking first among the athletes competing in this event.
Thus, considering the total points including the spear technique event (ranked first), the Vietnamese female martial artist won the Gold Medal. This is the first Gold Medal for Thúy Vi as well as the Vietnamese wushu team at the SEA Games 32.

Exactly 10 years ago, Thuy Vi competed in the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar and she was also the first athlete to win a Gold Medal for the Vietnamese wushu team. At the 2023 SEA Games, the female athlete from Hanoi continued her success at the 32nd SEA Games.

"Before the competition, I felt pressure and tried to concentrate as much as possible. Having to perform two routines to calculate the average score meant the contestants couldn't afford to make any mistakes. After the first performance, I saw that the score was as expected, so I felt more relaxed during my second performance. Therefore, I was able to showcase all my best techniques in my routine," Thúy Vi expressed.

The gold medal is even more meaningful for the female martial artist born in 1993 as today is her birthday. Sharing her feelings after the victory, Thuy Vi added:
"Today, leaders and friends know it's my birthday, but they don't dare wish me happy birthday for fear of causing pressure. I'm very happy on my 30th birthday. I won my first gold medal at the 2013 SEA Games when I was only 20 years old, and it's been exactly 10 years since then."

"I will cheer on my teammates, then go home and rest. I will still fight my hardest without setting a retirement date for my management and family."
Thúy Vi is one of the most veteran members of the Vietnamese wushu team. Including her gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games, she has won a total of 7 gold medals at regional competitions, in addition to gold medals at the Asian Championships, Asian Games, and World Championships.
