Van Xuan Road is in serious disrepair, and accidents are occurring frequently.
The series of accidents on Van Xuan road (35m wide) is raising serious concerns about the level of traffic safety. The damaged road surface, with its long stretches of ruts, coupled with the increasing volume of heavy trucks, has turned this road into a constant nightmare for residents.
On the afternoon of December 15th, another traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Van Xuan Road and Provincial Road 535 (Vinh - Cua Hoi Road). A motorcyclist traveling on this road drove onto a section of the road that was uneven and bumpy, like a "potato furrow," causing the rider to lose control and fall. Fortunately, no heavy vehicles were passing by at the time of the incident, so there were no casualties.
The entire incident was recorded by a citizen's dashcam and quickly spread on social media, attracting public attention and concern.
According to Mr. Duong Xuan Giap, a resident of Vinh Loc ward and the owner of the video clip, traffic accidents caused by potholes and potato patches on Van Xuan road are not uncommon. "I travel this road to work every day and frequently witness accidents. Some days there are several accidents in a row. Residents hope that the authorities will repair the road soon to ensure safety."

Reporters' observations reveal that along the entire Van Xuan road, many sections of the road surface have been completely deformed. The underlying asphalt concrete has been pushed up, creating rough patches stretching for tens of meters, interspersed with potholes and deep ruts. These "potato ridges" have become dangerous traps for people and vehicles, especially motorbikes, bicycles, and other rudimentary vehicles, particularly at night or during rainy weather.

At key intersections such as the one with Nguyen Phi Y Lan Street (Vinh Phu Ward) and Provincial Road 535 (Vinh Loc Ward), the problem of rutting is more serious. In some places, the road surface has sunk more than 10cm deep, creating uneven surfaces that force drivers to constantly swerve to avoid accidents, posing a constant risk of traffic accidents.
Not only is the road surface damaged, but the infrastructure ensuring traffic safety along the route also reveals many shortcomings. Many traffic signs are obscured by trees and weeds; some signs are broken, rusted, peeling, and ineffective as warning signs. The accumulation of soil, rocks, and sand on the road surface is not being cleaned promptly, and the road shoulders are uneven and rough, directly affecting traffic safety and urban aesthetics.

According to Mr. Hoang Nang Hiep, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Phu Ward People's Committee, the deterioration of Van Xuan road has been occurring for about 3 years now and has been frequently reported by residents in meetings and voter consultations.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Phan Huy Chuong, Deputy Head of the Traffic Safety Committee of Nghe An province, said that after receiving feedback from the media, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee coordinated with relevant units to conduct on-site inspections.
Inspections have revealed that the volume of traffic on Van Xuan road is very high, especially the high density of trucks carrying construction materials, causing serious rutting, particularly at intersections, leading to rapid deterioration of the road infrastructure and affecting traffic safety.

In addition, this route has many key intersections where traffic flow is not properly organized; management, maintenance, and upkeep are not carried out regularly.
To address this situation, the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee requests that relevant units urgently review and supplement the system of traffic signs and directional signs; clear vegetation and clean the road surface; organize the scraping and repair of sunken areas, and ensure smooth road surfaces. At the same time, they should study the addition of signs restricting weight limits, and implement appropriate lane and traffic flow management to limit the circulation of large trucks on urban roads.
In addition, the police force needs to increase patrols and inspections, and strictly handle violations related to oversized and overloaded vehicles, as well as vehicles with modified bodies and cargo beds on this road. Promptly repairing and rectifying the immediate damage on Van Xuan road is an urgent requirement.

Van Xuan Road, also known as the 35m Road, is a traffic route connecting National Highway 46A with the Lam River embankment road, with a total length of over 8km. The project has a total investment of VND 62.7 billion, with the People's Committee of Vinh City (formerly) as the investor and was implemented in phases due to funding difficulties. Phase 1 of the project was implemented from 2016 with a road width of 15m, completed and put into use in 2018.
