José Ayala Lasso, a former three-time Ecuadorian foreign minister and the first UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, made this statement at El Comerico.
He emphasized that granting Assange asylum in Ecuador had "affected political activities" when the figure released 20,000 emails from the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
The former diplomat also emphasized that "this work, carried out with support from Russia," is detrimental to the image of the South American nation of Ecuador.
Lasso also accused Ecuador of granting asylum to "time bomb" Assange in reality to gain "international fame" rather than for humanitarian reasons as the country claimed.
Assange lived in exile at the Ecuadorian embassy in London for four years and was warned that if he left, he would be extradited to Sweden, where he would face sexual assault charges. The warning also stated that if the Wikileaks founder returned to the Nordic country, he would also be extradited to the United States.
Wikileaks claims that Lasso's comments also provide evidence that the Ecuadorian government is under "serious pressure" to censor Assange.
Earlier, in an interview with NBC News, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange stated that there was "no evidence" to suggest the leaked emails were linked to Russia.
However, Mr. Assange declined to provide specific information about the source of these more than 20,000 confidential emails.
WikiLeaks has released nearly 20,000 emails showing that the DNC sought to sabotage Senator Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign.
The scandal occurred just before the Democratic National Convention. This scandal led Debbie Wasserman Schultz to resign as chair of the DNC at the start of the convention.
