Ederson prepares to leave Etihad: Guardiola does not prevent
Goalkeeper Ederson has a "realistic chance" of leaving Manchester City in the summer transfer window of 2025, just a year after his move to Saudi Arabia fell through.

Ederson, now 31, was very close to leaving the Etihad last summer after receiving a huge salary offer of up to £900,000 a week from a team in the Middle East. At that time, although he did not hide the negotiations, the Brazilian goalkeeper eventually decided to stay and contribute to Man City.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabian clubs have renewed their interest and this time Ederson seems ready to seek a new challenge. Manager Pep Guardiola is also said to not stand in the way if Ederson chooses to leave.
The 2024/25 season saw Ederson make just 22 Premier League appearances – the lowest of his English career. The Brazilian goalkeeper recently missed three consecutive games, including the FA Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest, after picking up an injury against Crystal Palace.
Ederson's current contract with Man City, worth £180,000 a week, expires in 2026. However, the impressive rise of reserve goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has left Ederson's future in doubt, and he could become the next star to leave Man City this summer.
If he completes his move to Saudi Arabia, Ederson will not only be looking for a new playing environment but also a huge salary – many times higher than his current one – in the final stages of his peak career.
