Ederson set to leave Etihad: Guardiola won't stop him
Goalkeeper Ederson has a "realistic chance" of leaving Manchester City in the summer of 2025, just a year after his move to Saudi Arabia fell through.

Ederson, now 31, came close to leaving the Etihad last summer after receiving a huge £900,000-a-week offer from a Middle Eastern club. Despite making no secret of the negotiations, the Brazilian goalkeeper ultimately decided to stay and play for Man City.
However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabian clubs have renewed their interest and this time Ederson seems ready to seek a new challenge. Manager Pep Guardiola is also said to not stand in the way if Ederson chooses to leave.
The 2024/25 season saw Ederson make just 22 Premier League appearances – the lowest of his English career. The Brazilian goalkeeper also recently missed three consecutive games, including the FA Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest, after picking up an injury against Crystal Palace.
Ederson's current contract with City, worth £180,000 a week, expires in 2026. However, the impressive rise of reserve goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has cast doubt on Ederson's future, and he could become the next star to leave City this summer.
If he completes his move to Saudi Arabia, Ederson will not only be looking for a new playing environment but also a huge salary – many times higher than his current one – in the final stages of his peak career.
