Technical specifications and combat capabilities of the UT30 Mk 2

Elbit Systems' contract is expected to be fulfilled over a period of three years. The UT30 Mk 2 module is designed with a compact structure, optimized to enhance firepower and survivability for infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) and armored personnel carriers (APCs).

The integrated weapon systems on this module are very diverse, including:

  • 30mm automatic cannon.
  • 7.62mm coaxial machine gun.
  • Anti-tank guided missile system (ATGM).

Notably, this module is capable of integrating the Iron Fist active protection system (APS). This is a comprehensive protection solution that helps vehicles counter threats from guided missiles, anti-tank rockets, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the modern battlefield.

Integrated onto the ASCOD armored vehicle platform.

The UT30 Mk 2 turret is expected to be installed on ASCOD infantry fighting vehicles manufactured by General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS). The selection of this module reflects the trend of upgrading the mobile combat capabilities of many militaries.

Latvia's equipment plan

In an effort to bolster its defense capabilities, Latvia has decided to add a large number of tracked ASCOD armored vehicles to its inventory. According to the schedule, the first of 84 vehicles in the first batch (domestically designated as Hunter) will be delivered to the Latvian Army in the spring of 2026.

The first purchase contract was signed in January 2025 for €387 million. By June 2025, the Latvian government had approved the purchase of an additional 42 ASCODs. These agreements also included provisions for the partial localization of the manufacturing process within Latvia to ensure long-term technical sustainability.
