Billionaire Elon Musk spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars to help Donald Trump win the presidential election last November, Reuters reported, underscoring the influence of one of the world's richest men on this year's race for the White House.
Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of electric car makers Tesla and SpaceX, has given $259 million to groups supporting Trump's 2024 campaign, according to new Federal Election Commission filings released late on December 6 (Washington time).
The massive donations have made Musk one of the largest donors to a presidential campaign in U.S. history, establishing him as a powerful political ally of President-elect Trump and someone who now plays a key role in shaping the policy agenda of the incoming Republican administration.
Elon Musk has given $239 million to America PAC – a supergroup he founded to help get voters out to vote for Mr. Trump.
In late October, Musk gave another $20 million to RBG PAC, a group that seeks to convince voters that Trump will not sign a nationwide abortion ban, according to FEC filings. The group’s name is a reference to the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who supported abortion rights.
Musk, who also owns the social media platform X, has emerged as a close adviser to Trump’s transition team. President-elect Trump has tapped Elon Musk, along with former Republican presidential candidate and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, to head a new efficiency committee aimed at cutting spending and streamlining the government.
