Spring of Quy June 24, 2024 10:08

The final round of matches in Group A was exciting and dramatic. Late goals dramatically changed the standings.

Germany struggled to top the group.

With the momentum from two consecutive victories, fans envisioned a third win for the host nation of this year's tournament. Especially since the German team still fielded their strongest lineup despite already having secured a place in the Round of 16.

However, Dan Ndoye's goal in the 28th minute dealt a blow to the home team. And with a bit more luck, coach Murat Yakin's side could have extended their lead after creating dangerous opportunities to end the match early.

Fortunately for the German team, substitute striker Niclas Füllkrug scored in the 90+2 minute to secure a point for his team. This late goal also allowed the home team to reclaim the top spot in Group A from Switzerland, and both teams are now guaranteed qualification for the next round.

In the other match, Kevin Csoboth's goal in the 90+10th minute secured three points for the Hungarian team, moving them up to third place in Group A and keeping their hopes alive of qualifying for the Round of 16.

Goalkeepers' Day

The final matchday of Group A also saw outstanding performances from the goalkeepers. Manuel Neuer made a superb save, blocking a powerful shot from midfielder Granit Xhaka.

That was Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who frustrated the German strikers and nearly secured a victory for his team.

Similarly, colleagues Angus Gunn and Péter Gulácsi also made some excellent saves and interventions in the match between Scotland and Hungary.

It's safe to say that Euro 2024 is witnessing some impressive performances from goalkeepers. And that makes this year's tournament even more exciting and unpredictable.

Barnabás Varga's horrific crash

In the 67th minute, Varga suffered a horrific collision with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn. This injury reminded many fans of Eriksen's collapse on the pitch at EURO 2020.

However, it took quite a while for medical staff to get onto the field to provide first aid to striker Barnabás Varga. So much so that Dominik Szoboszlai had to rush in to help the medical team carry him on the stretcher.

Fortunately, striker Barnabás Varga has been confirmed to be in stable condition. However, he suffered several facial fractures and will require surgery.

Hopefully, the 29-year-old striker will recover quickly so he can continue playing with the Hungarian national team.
