"To help people stay connected with friends and the experiences they care about, we're rolling out a new feature that reveals open Wi-Fi networks in nearby areas," a Facebook spokesperson said.

This feature isn't like opening your Wi-Fi settings and searching for an open network. Based on screenshots from TheNextWeb and VentureBeat, it appears users will actually see certain locations with free public Wi-Fi, such as a nearby McDonald's or Starbucks.
There are already apps for iOS and Android that show locations with free public Wi-Fi. However, integrating this feature into Facebook, instead of relying on separate apps, would be more convenient for users.
Furthermore, this move will further facilitate Facebook's mission to help everyone access the internet.
