Federer won his 1100th career match
The Swiss player had a smooth start at the Halle Open, with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Yuichi Sugita.
Federer was supposed to face Yen-Hsun Lu in the first round, but Lu withdrew due to injury. Sugita was placed in the main draw despite losing in the previous qualifying round.
Roger Federer took just 52 minutes to defeat the Japanese player. The Swiss player won 90% of his first serve points (26/29). This was a smooth start in Halle for Federer after losing in his opening match in Stuttgart last week.
With this result, Federer also has the 1100th win in his professional tennis career.

"1100 is a very big number and I'm happy about that," Federer shared. "Hopefully I have more opportunities to improve this record. Today, I played well, following the desired strategy of attacking. I'm also happy with my serve."
Federer is currently second on the list of tennis players with the most wins. Jimmy Connors is at the top with 1,256 wins.
In the second round, Federer's opponent is Mischa Zverez. The "Express Train" at the Australian Open earlier this year defeated Zverez in the quarterfinals.
Mischa's younger brother Alexander Zverez also breezed through the first round, beating Paolo Lorenzi in 59 minutes.
