Fellaini receives a suspension after headbutting Aguero.

The English Football Association (FA) has issued a written warning to the Manchester United midfielder and banned him from playing in the next three Premier League matches.

The FA reviewed the video footage of the incident leading to Marouane Fellaini's red card and decided not to impose any further punishment. Fellaini was banned for three matches for receiving a direct red card.

The Belgian midfielder will therefore miss the matches against Swansea, Arsenal, and Tottenham.This would be a significant setback for Man Utd, especially with a number of other key players currently injured.

In addition to the penalty, the FA also sent Fellaini a written warning, advising the Manchester United midfielder to consider his future actions.

Fellaini was sent off in the 84th minute of the Manchester derby. Nineteen seconds after receiving a yellow card for fouling Sergio Aguero, Fellaini brought the Argentinian striker down again by headbutting him.

Fellaini complained to referee Martin Atkinson and then to the fourth official, claiming that Aguero was "acting".

"If Aguero hadn't fallen, there certainly wouldn't have been a red card. But Fellaini created the opportunity for him. So, I think this was a situation that was half deserving of a card, and half a result of the experienced and shrewd Argentinian player," Jose Mourinho commented on the collision.

Man Utd are currently fifth in the Premier League, two points behind third-placed Liverpool and with a game in hand. Their chances of finishing in the top four remain in their own hands. This weekend, Man Utd will play at home against Swansea, who are fighting to avoid relegation.
