| British media are buzzing with rumors that Van Gaal is about to face dismissal. |
The Mirror reported that an emergency meeting regarding the manager's position at Man Utd took place on December 21st, attended by Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward, former CEO David Gill, and Sir Alex Ferguson. Man Utd leaders considered whether or not to sack Van Gaal following a recent string of poor results.
The Glazers, the owners of Man Utd, delegated decision-making authority to the English board. Ferguson held a significant voice in the meeting. The former Scottish manager, a good friend of Van Gaal, still supported the Dutch coach but didn't want to miss the opportunity to bring in Jose Mourinho. "The Special One" also had a close relationship with Sir Alex. Mourinho's statement that he wanted to seek opportunities in England served as a signal to Man Utd.
The final decision after this meeting remains a mystery. However, according to the British media, Van Gaal will be sacked if he continues to lose in the match against Stoke City on Boxing Day, December 26th. The Daily Express also claims that Mourinho has agreed to take over as manager of Old Trafford.
Under pressure, Van Gaal stated he would respect the board's decision. The 64-year-old manager felt the players' trust but was unsure if he could remain in his position after three consecutive defeats. Man Utd had also previously been eliminated from the Champions League.
