The American automaker has officially released images of the 2018 Mustang convertible, a two-door sports car, just three days after the coupe version debuted at the Detroit Auto Show.
The convertible version boasts an exterior that is almost identical to the hardtop version. Notable features include standard LED headlights and a completely new front bumper. Inside, America's most popular sports car uses a 12-inch multi-function screen that can be customized to the user's preferences.
The debut of the Mustang convertible surprised many Ford enthusiasts because the company didn't choose the Detroit Auto Show to showcase its pride and joy, instead opting for a much less well-known show in South Carolina and Kentucky. It will also be featured at over 50 local auto shows across the United States before its official launch.
A Ford representative stated that they reserved the Detroit Auto Show for the coupe version as well as the F-150 pickup truck. Another reason given was that the company has "very few convertible prototypes to display at major auto shows."

This is the first time since 1994 that the Mustang's engine isn't a V-6. The manufacturer has eliminated this engine, replacing it with a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Ecoboost engine and a traditional 5.0-liter V8 engine, both paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. A 6-speed dual-clutch manual transmission is also available as an option.
Unlike the Chevrolet Cameron, which can close its roof at speeds up to 30 mph, the Mustang can only close its roof at speeds up to 3 mph. The roof takes 10 seconds to open and close. The price of the car has not yet been revealed.
