Vietnam Futsal has made great strides. |
In terms of achievements, they may be similar, but in fact, Fusal Vietnam has made great progress by boldly using domestic coaches and the process of rejuvenating the team has been more successful than expected.
Looking back at the development history of Vietnamese Futsal, many people are surprised that the first head coach, who led the team for 10 years (1997-2007), was a veteran coach of 11-a-side football, former head coach of SLNA, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh. After that, Vietnamese futsal was truly deployed systematically with a long-term, professional vision when continuously inviting foreign coaches to lead the team (along with organizing the annual National Championship, clubs participating in regional and continental tournaments...) such as P. Piamkum from Thailand (2008-2010), S. Gargelli from Italy (2010-2013), B. Garcia from Spain (2014-2016), M. Rodrigo, Spain (2017-2019)... The best achievement of Vietnamese futsal was the period when Spanish coach B. Garcia led the team to the 2016 World Cup for the first time and reached the round of 16 as mentioned above, creating the foundation for a good relationship to develop all aspects later.
For many different reasons, Vietnamese futsal has gone through 3 stages led by domestic coaches. After the initial period of formation and gradual stabilization with coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh, there was also the time when captain Nguyen Bao Quan was assigned the role of head coach (2016-2017) and from 2019 to present, coach Pham Minh Giang with outstanding achievements brought the team to the FIFA Futsal Finals 2021 and had 1 win opening up many hopes of continuing as previously achieved.
Fans who have the opportunity to watch the 2 play-off matches to get tickets to the final round of the Vietnam Futsal Team against Lebanon and the team's matches at the FIFA Futsal World Cup will be able to fully imagine the coaching talent of domestic coach Pham Minh Giang, compared to previous foreign coaches. The Vietnam National Team still maintains players with battle experience, who have participated in the World Cup and major tournaments such as Van Vu, Quoc Nam, Minh Tri, Van Y, Duc Hoa... while continuously adding young players with a strong fighting spirit such as Doan Phat, Van Hieu, Dinh Hung...
If the experienced pillars are the ones who take turns in defense, maintaining the game in tough, challenging matches such as the first and second leg play-offs, or the recent match against the "big guy Brazil", creating confidence for teammates to seize sharp counter-attack opportunities... then the young factors are the unexpected, bold drills for the Vietnam team to create knock-out blows, finishing off the opponent.
That was Doan Phat’s breakthrough on the left wing and his tricky, decisive goal in the second leg away against Lebanon. That was Dinh Hung’s combination of a cross-field kick and an unstoppable shot against Brazil in the first leg in Lithuania. And most importantly, Van Hieu’s goal to make it 3-2 from a situation of intercepting and winning the ball on home ground, bravely passing both the defender and the goalkeeper of Panama, scoring from an unbelievable shooting angle to the helplessness and surprise of his opponents…
Of course, much praise must be given to the goalkeeper of the Vietnamese national team, Van Y. The Spanish futsal community has told Vietnamese futsal that, in order to stop the world's top pivot (striker), Brazilian Ferrao, who is playing in Europe, they had to use 4 players to surround and block him, but were still unsuccessful because Ferrao is truly an "alien". Therefore, the fact that Van Y let the ball into the net 9 times in the recent match against Brazil (Ferrao scored 4 goals) is nothing to criticize or underestimate. On the contrary, the fact that Van Y continuously denied the opponent's dangerous shots in the 2 recent matches against Lebanon or Panama is the "trademark" of this spider man. He is a goalkeeper with excellent reflexes, reasonable entry and exit, always the trust of the whole team in the suffocating moments and countless dangers from the opponents.
Those results of Vietnam Futsal under the hands of domestic coach Pham Minh Giang open up new possibilities, full of hope for the future. Obviously, for both teachers and students, if trusted with important responsibilities, if properly invested, after a period of learning and progressing, Vietnam Fusal can stand on its own two feet, confidently step onto the big stage of world futsal to maintain the achieved results and reach new milestones. That is truly the right way to go, long-term, truly meaningful self-reliance and self-reliance.,.
