Nguyen Viet Hung (32 years old), residing in Dien Lam commune, Dien Chau district, is married. His wife is four years younger than him. They have one child together, approximately one year old. Their life as a young family of three is the envy of many.
But the couple's peaceful life was disrupted by Hung's baseless jealousy. The husband's blind jealousy, along with...conflictLife's events led to tragedy for the young family.
The incident stemmed from Hung's suspicion that Bui TN (31 years old), residing in Dien Kim commune, Dien Chau district, had a romantic relationship with his wife. His suspicion grew, so on the afternoon of February 11th, Hung decided to go find N. to resolve the conflict.

Without hesitation, Hung went to a relative's house to borrow a motorbike for transportation. On the way, he stopped at a house, pretending to need to use the restroom, in order to take a knife and hide it in his pants.
At approximately 12:40 PM that same day, Hung went to Mr. N's house. At this time, Mr. N was singing karaoke alone in the living room, so Hung looked through the crack in the door and said, "Sir, please open the door so I can ask you something." Thinking it was an acquaintance, the homeowner opened the door, but was immediately attacked by Nguyen Viet Hung, who slashed him in the head and shoulder with a knife. Taken by surprise, Mr. N pushed Hung out into the yard and tried to run away but failed.
Although Mr. N. resisted and shouted, "Let's talk things over calmly," Hung still slashed him three times in the head, neck, and hip. Repeatedly receiving knife blows from an unknown assailant caused the victim to collapse.
The incident only ended when Mr. N. broke free, pushed Hung away, and ran out into the street shouting for help. Mr. N. was then taken to the hospital by local residents for emergency treatment. Authorities determined that the victim suffered 26% disability. After committing the crime, Hung threw away the knife and went home. Later, he surrendered to the police, confessing to his crime.
Price
For the above actions, Nguyen Viet Hung was prosecuted and brought to trial for the crime of "Murder". Standing before the witness stand, facing the panel of judges, the defendant admitted to all the criminal acts as charged in the indictment. However, explaining his actions, the defendant stated that he had only heard rumors and had no evidence to show that Mr. N. had a romantic relationship with his wife. The defendant explained that on that day, wanting to clarify any suspicions, he sought out Mr. N. to talk.

The presiding judge then questioned: "The defendant claimed he wanted to meet the victim to talk, but why did he repeatedly stab her with a knife as soon as she opened the door?" In response to this question, the defendant remained silent for a moment before admitting that he had acted impulsively out of anger.
According to the defendant Hung, prior to the incident, there was a conflict between him and his wife. The reason was that his wife had dreamt about lottery numbers and told a friend about it. Knowing this, the defendant tried to dissuade his wife from doing so, saying it would only encourage others to become addicted to lottery and gambling. This conflict, coupled with his suspicion that his wife was cheating on him, led him to commit the illegal act.
Sitting silently in court as the victim, Mr. N. repeatedly bowed his head. He stated that he did not know the defendant or his wife at all. He lives and works in Hanoi, only occasionally returning to his hometown, but he couldn't understand why Hung was so unreasonably jealous. The fact that the defendant came to his house and attacked him with a knife shocked him and greatly affected his health, mental state, and reputation.
According to the victim, after the incident, many people gossiped, affecting his family's life. The victim claimed that the defendant's actions seriously damaged his reputation and honor. Therefore, the victim demanded that the defendant publicly apologize. At the trial, the defendant turned to apologize to Mr. N., claiming it was a misunderstanding. The defendant asked the court to consider mitigating circumstances so that he could return to rebuild his life sooner.
The court ruled that the defendant's act of stabbing the victim multiple times constituted the crime of "murder." The victim survived thanks to timely medical intervention. Therefore, a severe sentence is necessary to deter and prevent similar crimes in the future.
However, considering that the defendant had many mitigating circumstances such as honest confession, remorse, surrender, and also had influenced his family to partially compensate the victim for the damages… After considering all aspects of the case, the Panel of Judges sentenced Nguyen Viet Hung to 9 years in prison for the crime of "Murder".
Blind jealousy led Hung into legal trouble. And when he looked back, it was too late; the defendant had to accept months of lost freedom behind prison doors.
