The fake 'sorcerer' and his scheme to cheat gullible women out of love and money

On May 12, the Criminal Police Team, Hoang Mai District Police, Hanoi announced that it had decided to temporarily detain Nguyen Manh Quan (born 1987, residing in Thanh Thuy District, Phu Tho Province) for fraud and property appropriation.

Many times transferred money to exorcise the fake "sorcerer"

The victim in the case is Nguyen Thi L. (in Hanoi). In the complaint sent to the Criminal Police Team of Hoang Mai District Police, Ms. L. stated: In early April 2020, Ms. L. used a fake Facebook account named "do not disturb" to join the Facebook group "Vietnamese Horoscope". Here, Ms. L. recounted her symptoms, her facial expression often changed by the hour, her temperament was erratic, her mentality was unstable...

Not long after sharing, the facebook account "thuy phong" texted back, introducing himself as Quan, currently a feng shui master... After that, Ms. L. and Quan often exchanged messages via the zalo account "Tu vi tuong so" and text messages. Quan introduced himself as a "shaman" and could read horoscopes and physiognomy through palmistry, playing cards (tú lo kho) and said that L. had a predestined relationship from a previous life, and that a ghost (the soul of a dead person following and affecting life) needed to perform a ceremony.

Believing Quan, on April 6, Ms. L. transferred 2 million VND to Quan's account to perform the ceremony, and the next day transferred another 3 million VND to buy offerings. Seeing that the victim was easy to take advantage of, Quan asked to transfer nearly 70 million VND in the following times with the threat that there were still many "ghosts" following.

Understanding the psychology of the defeated, Quan not only cheated money, but also love, taking advantage of L.'s gullibility, Quan had committed rape. At the investigation agency, Ms. L. said: After transferring money twice to perform the ritual to remove the curse, Quan said it was still not successful, so he asked L. to have sex with a shaman like Quan, otherwise, whoever she marries or has a relationship with will die young. Listening to the fake shaman, on April 8 and 15, L. agreed to let Quan have sex with her for the purpose of curing her illness. Quan then asked to transfer another 15 million VND, but the victim did not agree and reported it to the police.

After receiving the information, the Criminal Police Team stepped in and planned to arrest the perpetrator. On the evening of May 7, when the "shaman" came to meet L. to receive the money, he was checked, discovered and arrested by the Hoang Mai District Police.

The competitive nature leads to debt accumulation

At the investigation agency, Quan denied his crime, claiming that he had received money to perform the ceremony. To prove and clarify Quan's criminal behavior, the working group went to Dong Trung commune, Thanh Thuy, Phu Tho to meet Ms. Dinh (Quan's wife), who said: Quan and his family do not have an altar, do not practice shamanism or feng shui. On April 5, Quan did not perform any ceremony at home and did not give her any money...

The working group also came to work with the Dong Trung Commune Police, Thanh Thuy to provide information that the subject had never worked in the profession of worship, feng shui, or fortune telling. At the same time, the Criminal Police Team printed and copied the account statements of the victim L. and Quan, matching the time, content of the money transfer and the amount transferred and received from April 6 to April 20, which was 69.5 million VND.

Faced with the collected evidence, the subject Nguyen Manh Quan had to confess all his crimes: Quan has a wife and two children, but with his competitive nature, he still has extramarital relationships outside..., which leads to a lot of debt. After hearing the confession of the victim L., when he was short of money, Quan came up with the idea of ​​​​fraud and appropriation of property. Although Quan is not a shaman, he took advantage of Ms. L.'s desperate situation to appropriate money and satisfy his own sexual needs. The times Ms. L. transferred money for Quan to perform a ceremony, Quan used it for personal expenses...

Currently, the Criminal Police Team has taken Ms. L. to the Central Maternity Hospital for examination of her injuries and continues to investigate to clarify Quan's criminal behavior. The Investigation Police Agency of Hoang Mai District Police continues to consolidate evidence, clarify the rape act to handle Quan according to the provisions of the law./.
