The guy killed the old lady next door while being invited to eat 'guest's meal'
(Baonghean.vn) - While visiting a neighbor's house, Thang learned that the 74-year-old woman had money on her, so he had the idea of killing her and robbing her. After eating the meal the homeowner invited him to, Thang went to the kitchen and beat the woman to death.
On October 27, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Phan Van Thang (30 years old), residing in Thanh Long commune, Thanh Chuong district, for the crime of "Murder". The victim in the case was Ms. Le Thi L. (born in 1947), a neighbor and mother of Thang's friend.
The case file shows that on the morning of April 17, 2021, Thang went to Ms. L's house to visit. During the conversation, Ms. L accidentally let Thang know that she had just received money from her family.
At noon that same day, Thang was invited by the homeowner to stay for dinner. Mrs. L. brought dinner to the guest house for Thang to eat while she ate in the kitchen.

While eating, Thang had the idea of killing Mrs. L. to rob her money, so he went to the kitchen. At that time, Mrs. L. was sitting with her back to Thang. When Mrs. L. just stood up, Thang pushed her hard on the shoulder, causing her to hit her head against the wall. Being beaten, Mrs. L. cried for help, but Thang used both hands to hit her hard, causing her to fall to the floor, unconscious. After that, Thang searched Mrs. L.'s pocket for money but did not find any.
At the same time, the niece-in-law who lived nearby heard the scream and ran over. Knowing that someone had come, Thang quickly went to the living room and continued eating as if nothing had happened.
Seeing Mrs. L. lying unconscious in the kitchen, the nephew asked and Thang said that she had fallen. After that, Thang pretended that nothing had happened and, together with everyone else, put Mrs. L. to bed and applied massage oil. At around 11:30 a.m. the same day, relatives discovered Mrs. L. dead, with blood flowing from her head and ears.
While Mrs. L.'s family asked Thang to buy some things, this young man borrowed another 500,000 VND and went to buy drugs to use. At 9:30 p.m. the same day, Thang turned himself in to the police, confessing all his crimes.
The investigation agency determined that the cause of Ms. L's death was due to multiple traumatic brain hemorrhage.
At the trial, the defendant Thang admitted to the crime. After the incident, the defendant’s family paid 20 million VND in compensation to the victim’s representative.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s murder was of a hooligan nature; the fact that the defendant committed the crime against a person 70 years of age or older was an aggravating circumstance. In this case, the defendant had mitigating circumstances such as surrendering, repenting, and honestly confessing.
