Nearly 3,000 students in Nam Dan district are still unable to attend school.
(Baonghean) - Although the rain has stopped, nearly 3,000 students in Nam Dan district are still unable to attend school today.
These are students from three communes: Nam Cuong, Nam Kim, and Nam Trung – communes located in the "five southern" region of Nam Dan district. The main reason is the heavy rains in recent days, which have caused deep flooding on the inter-communal roads running through the area, making travel very difficult.

Furthermore, because these communes are located at the foot of the mountains, the risk of sudden flooding from the streams is very high. Two days ago, while on their way to school, a student in Nam Kim commune drowned after being swept away by the stream.

Mr. Le Trung Son, Head of the Education Department of Nam Dan District, said: "Currently, the water has not yet receded, so the district has instructed school principals to proactively monitor the situation and will allow students to return to school when it is safe for them to travel. After the break, schools will arrange for make-up classes for students."
Since the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, this is the second time students in Nam Dan have had to miss school due to flooding.
