Nearly 400 athletes will compete at the 2025 National Vovinam Team Championship.
On the evening of April 18th, at the Nghe An Provincial Gymnasium, the 2025 National Vovinam Strong Teams Championship officially opened. Hosted by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the event attracted nearly 400 outstanding athletes from 30 provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide.
Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh – Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; and on behalf of the Vietnam Vovinam Federation, Mr. Tran Van My – Chief Administrator of the Vovinam Vietnamese martial arts school, Standing Vice President; along with representatives from provincial departments and agencies.
The tournament is an important national sporting event, contributing to the promotion of sports training.Vovinamand spread the martial spirit of the nation.
This is not only an opportunity for athletes to compete and showcase their talents, but also a chance to interact, learn, and exchange experiences among strong clubs nationwide.
This year's tournament holds special significance as it takes place within a series of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025), the 139th anniversary of International Labor Day (May 1, 1886 – May 1, 2025), and looking forward to the 135th anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 – May 19, 2025).
Hosting the National Vovinam Team Championship is an opportunity for Nghe An province to promote the image of its homeland, rich in cultural traditions, and its friendly, compassionate, and hospitable people.
The tournament consisted of two main events: kata (forms) and sparring.
In the martial arts competition, athletes will compete in various technical performances such as: Four-Element Staff Technique (men), Tai Chi Single-Sword Technique (women), Footwork Attack (men), Double-Sword Training (men)…
In the sparring category, the weight classes are specifically divided as follows: 45 kg men, 54 kg men, over 92 kg men; 51 kg women, 75 kg women, and many other weight classes.
The tournament will take place from now until April 22nd, promising exciting, dramatic, and authentic competitions showcasing traditional Vietnamese martial arts.
