Nearly 9 million international tourists visited Vietnam.
In the first six months of 2024, Vietnam received over 8.8 million international visitors, a 58.4% increase compared to the same period last year. Inbound tourism continued to grow significantly compared to pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels.
According to the General Statistics Office, in June, the number of international visitors...The number of visitors to Vietnam reached over 1.2 million, an increase of 28.1% compared to the same period last year.
In the first six months of 2024, Vietnam welcomed a total of over 8.8 million tourists, an increase of 58.4% compared to the same period last year and an increase of 4.1% compared to the same period in 2019 - a year before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Compared to the target of 17-18 million international visitors this year, Vietnam's tourism industry has already reached the halfway point. The peak season for international tourists typically begins in October each year, during which time the industry expects a significant surge in visitor numbers to Vietnam.

In the first six months of the year, South Korea remained the largest source of visitors with 2.28 million arrivals, a 42.4% increase compared to the same period last year. This was followed by China with 1.89 million arrivals. Taiwan (China) ranked third with over 630,000 visitors.
The list of leading markets for visitors to Vietnam in the first half of this year also includes the US with over 415,000 visitors; Japan with nearly 336,000; Malaysia with 254,000; Australia with 243,000; India with 239,000; Cambodia, Thailand, etc.
In its latest report, VinaCapital expects the number of international tourists visiting Vietnam to increase by 40% in 2024, after a nearly 250% increase last year.
The recovery in international tourism has been primarily driven by visitor numbers from South Korea and the United States, and especially by the continued resurgence of tourists from China after the country eased its Zero Covid-19 policy in 2023.
However, if we consider June alone, the number of inbound tourists decreased by 10% compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office. Leading markets such as South Korea, China, Taiwan (China), Japan, etc., all experienced declines due to it being the low season for international tourists visiting Vietnam.
Conversely, due to the peak summer season for domestic tourism, revenue from accommodation and food services nationwide in the first six months of the year increased sharply, by over 15% compared to the same period last year, estimated at 356.4 trillion VND. Specifically, Quang Ninh increased by 25.2%; Da Nang by 22.2%; Hai Phong by 15%; Hanoi by 11.3%; Can Tho by 11.2%; Ho Chi Minh City by 8.1%, and so on.
Tourism revenue in the first six months of 2024 is estimated at 29.4 trillion VND, an increase of 37% compared to the same period in 2023.
