(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of January 5, Doan Ket General Clinic (Quy Hop) removed a live leech from the trachea of male patient LVT (53 years old) in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district using endoscopy.

Patient T came to the clinic with symptoms of coughing up fresh blood that persisted for 10 days. Through examination and endoscopy, doctors discovered a leech wriggling right in the patient's trachea.

It is known that the patient often goes to the forest and drinks water from streams. It is likely that the leech entered the patient's larynx because of drinking stream water.

After removing the foreign object, the patient could breathe easily and stopped coughing.

Doctors recommend that people should not drink water from rivers, streams, lakes, or unboiled or untreated water. Leeches that live in the body will suck blood and destroy organs if not detected early. If there are unusual symptoms, go to a medical facility for examination and timely treatment./.
